FEB UIII on the Global Stage: Lecturer’s Analysis Featured in China Daily, Reaching Mandarin Readers

By Supriyono

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) continues to strengthen its global academic presence through the work of its faculty members. One recent example is the publication of an analytical article by Fajar Hirawan, Ph.D., a senior lecturer at FEB UIII, in China Daily, with the piece also circulated in Mandarin, expanding its reach to one of the world’s largest reading publics.

The publication reflects FEB UIII’s commitment to producing scholarship that speaks beyond academic journals, engaging directly with global audiences and international policy conversations. By appearing in China Daily, Dr. Fajar’s work contributes Indonesian and Global South perspectives to discussions on economic development in an increasingly interconnected world.

Dr. Fajar’s academic journey spans multiple continents. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Sydney, supported by the Australia Awards Scholarship, after completing a Master’s degree in Development Studies from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in Italy. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Indonesia, forming a strong foundation for his international academic career.

Before joining FEB UIII, Dr. Fajar served as a Researcher at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) since 2006 and led the Department of Economics in 2022–2023. CSIS is a leading think tank in Indonesia and the Southeast Asia–Pacific region. His work bridged academic research and policy engagement, contributing to evidence-based discussions on national and regional development.

His research interests include China and global economy, food security, international trade, creative and digital economies, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), rural–urban poverty, and development economics. His scholarly work has appeared in a wide range of academic and policy publications, including those published by CSIS Indonesia, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), Real Instituto Elcano, Global Solutions Initiative, and other global research institutions.

For FEB UIII, Dr. Fajar’s China Daily publication reaffirms the faculty’s vision of cultivating economists who are globally connected and publicly engaged. It reflects an academic environment that encourages faculty members to contribute ideas across borders, languages, and policy arenas.

Admissions to Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia are now open. Prospective students from Indonesia and around the world are invited to apply and become part of FEB UIII’s international academic community.
