Jakarta — Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) reaffirmed its commitment to advancing international dialogue and peacebuilding as its Rector, Prof. Dr. Jamhari Makruf, M.A., participated in a high-level Afternoon Tea Discussion hosted by His Excellency Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Republic of Indonesia and Non-Resident Ambassador to Timor-Leste. The gathering brought together diplomats, policymakers, and academics to exchange views on the evolving situation in the Middle East.
The discussion featured H.E. Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the UAE Federal National Council and Chairman of the Defense Affairs, Interior and Foreign Affairs Committee, who shared perspectives on the current developments and challenges facing the Middle East.
Speaking during the gathering, Ambassador AlDhaheri expressed hope that the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East would soon come to an end, emphasizing that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue and mutual understanding rather than violence. He also conveyed his appreciation for Indonesia’s experience in nurturing a tolerant and pluralistic Islam, describing it as an important asset that enables Indonesia to make meaningful contributions to promoting peace and dialogue in the Muslim world.
Reflecting on the discussion, Prof. Jamhari welcomed the Ambassador’s remarks and underscored the importance of peaceful engagement in addressing regional conflicts.

“I hope the differences and conflicts in the Middle East can be resolved through peaceful dialogue so that war, which only brings suffering and human casualties, can be avoided,” said Prof. Jamhari.
He added that universities have an important role in fostering spaces for critical yet constructive conversations across national, religious, and cultural boundaries. As Indonesia’s international graduate university dedicated to the study of Islam and Muslim societies, UIII seeks to contribute scholarly perspectives to global discussions on peace, diplomacy, and coexistence.
The meeting also highlighted the growing partnership between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates in strengthening educational, intellectual, and cultural exchanges. For UIII, participation in such dialogues reflects its mission to serve as a bridge between Indonesia and the wider Muslim world while promoting moderation, mutual respect, and international cooperation.
