A distinguished delegation from the Kingdom of Morocco visited Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) on Friday, November 22, 2024. The delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Mohamed Roughi, a respected member of the Higher Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, accompanied by Dr. Abdussalam Ajmili, an astronomer and faculty member at the Faculty of Sharia in Fez, and Dr. Yasin Hamud, Director of Islamic Affairs at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs of the Kingdom of Morocco.
The honorable guests were warmly welcomed by UIII Rector Prof. Dr. Jamhari, along with Dr. Chaider S. Bamualim, MA, University Secretary, and Dr. M. Ilyas Marwal, MM, DESA, Coordinator of the Classical Islamic Studies Program at UIII’s Faculty of Islamic Studies.
During the meeting, UIII leadership expressed deep gratitude to Prof. Mohamed Roughi, for his instrumental role in the university's establishment. Prof. Roughi had served as a vital consultant during UIII’s formative years, offering invaluable insights on building a world-class higher education institution rooted in Islamic values and traditions.
The discussions centered on exploring potential avenues for enhanced cooperation between UIII and Moroccan universities. “Indonesia and Morocco share similarities in terms of Islamic perspectives. This is a crucial modality for us to cooperate in the future,” Prof. Jamhari remarked, emphasizing the strong foundation for academic collaboration between the two nations.
In response, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Roughi warmly welcomed the idea, suggesting that the collaboration could commence with joint research on Islam in Indonesia and Morocco. “The findings of such research could serve as valuable proposals to the Kingdom of Morocco,” he stated, highlighting the potential for meaningful academic contributions from both sides.
The meeting highlighted a shared commitment to foster stronger ties through academic exchanges, collaborative research, and capacity-building initiatives. Both parties underscored the importance of leveraging shared values and traditions to address contemporary global challenges. The meeting serves as a testament to the potential for deepened relations between Indonesia and Morocco, promising significant advancements in Islamic scholarship and educational innovation.
