Depok — Wednesday, 2 October 2024 – In an important meeting held at the Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) campus, UIII’s leadership engaged in discussions with Pertamina on potential collaboration opportunities. The talks centered around the Nusantara Sustainability Hub, a major initiative by Pertamina to promote green energy and sustainable development in Indonesia’s new capital, Ibu Kota Negara (IKN), Kalimantan.
The hub, which will focus on low-carbon technology, research, and innovation, presents numerous opportunities for academic institutions to collaborate with Pertamina. UIII, as a leading research university in economics and sustainability, is positioned to play a key role in supporting Pertamina’s ambitious goals.
During the meeting, UIII Rector, Prof. Jamhari, explored several potential avenues for collaboration, including joint research projects, human resource development, and professional training in fields related to green energy and environmental sustainability. “We see many opportunities to collaborate with Pertamina in research, education, and advocacy. UIII can provide expertise in these areas, and we are ready to work together on this exciting project,” said Prof. Jamhari.
Rifqi Muna, PhD, Head of UIII’s Academic Senate, emphasized the university’s focus on climate change studies and the potential for advocacy on carbon trading, a critical aspect of Indonesia’s energy transition. He noted, “UIII has a strong focus on climate change through our Master of Public Policy program, and we are optimistic about working with Pertamina in these areas.”
Similarly, Rizky Wisnoentoro, PhD, Head of the Sustainable Finance program at UIII, highlighted the potential for UIII to collaborate with Pertamina in developing sustainable finance solutions. He proposed joint research, certification programs, and human resource development as key areas where both institutions could benefit. “Our Sustainable Finance program is ideally placed to support Pertamina’s green energy initiatives, and we look forward to exploring these opportunities together,” Dr. Wisnoentoro stated.
As the Nusantara Sustainability Hub develops, Mr Hana Timoti from Pertamina has expressed interest in partnering with universities like UIII to create a vibrant ecosystem for research, innovation, and education in sustainable development. The collaboration is expected to include research on carbon trading, energy transition, and the development of a professional workforce equipped to meet the challenges of the green economy.
This strategic partnership would align with UIII’s commitment to advancing sustainable development and fostering global collaboration in areas critical to Indonesia’s future. Both UIII and Pertamina are optimistic about the potential impact of their cooperation in driving Indonesia’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
