Depok, May 19, 2026 — Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) received a delegation from Wuhan Polytechnic University (WHPU), China, for an exploratory academic cooperation meeting at the UIII campus in Depok on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. The visit was facilitated by the Indonesia-China Center for Education and Industry Cooperation (ICC) and led by Xie Tianyi, Chairman of Yayasan Jembatan Bambu Nusantara/ICC, together with Arif Priambodo, Founder of ICC. Two representatives from Beijing Huitongge Consulting Co., Ltd. (HTG) also joined the visit, while the main discussion focused on prospective cooperation between UIII and WHPU.
The WHPU delegation was led by Wang Hongxun, Vice President and Professor of Wuhan Polytechnic University. Other members included Wang Xuedong, Director and Professor at the Center for Technology Transfer; Liu Jiesheng, Dean and Professor of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture; Xi Qiangyi, Dean and Professor of the School of Foreign Languages; and Zheng Yanbo, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School.
From UIII, the meeting was attended by Prof. Jamhari, Rector of Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia; Prof. Amsal Bakhtiar, Vice Rector for Planning, Finance, and Business Development; Dr. Phil. Syafiq Hasyim, M.A., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs; Saiful Umam, M.A., Ph.D., Director of Research and Strategic Cooperation; Alpha Amirrachman, Ph.D., Head of the Quality Assurance Center; Muhammad Al Altiqi, Ph.D., Head of the Data Science Study Program; and several UIII staff members.
In his welcoming remarks, Prof. Jamhari introduced UIII as an inclusive and internationally oriented university. He emphasized that UIII was established to engage with global academic communities and to develop cooperation across countries, cultures, and disciplines. He welcomed the possibility of collaboration with WHPU, particularly in areas that could strengthen UIII’s academic programs and international partnerships.
Xie Tianyi introduced the Chinese delegation and explained ICC’s role in facilitating education and industry-oriented cooperation between Indonesia and China. Wang Hongxun then introduced Wuhan Polytechnic University and conveyed WHPU’s interest in developing concrete cooperation with UIII.
During the discussion, Prof. Jamhari welcomed the possibility of inviting WHPU lecturers in data science and related fields to serve as guest lecturers at UIII’s Data Science Study Program. He noted that such collaboration could support the development of emerging areas, including artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and other technology-driven academic fields.
Wang Hongxun responded positively and stated that WHPU was ready to explore faculty mobility, including short-term teaching fellowship arrangements at UIII for three to six months. He also noted that WHPU could support cooperation in economics and business, in addition to data science, artificial intelligence, and other technology-related fields.
The two sides also discussed the possibility of developing joint degree and double degree programs. According to Xie Tianyi, a practical first step would be to facilitate Indonesian students to study in China through joint or double degree schemes. After this initial phase, the possibility of bringing Chinese students to Indonesia could also be explored.
Muhammad Al Altiqi, Ph.D., asked about employment opportunities in China for Indonesian students after completing their studies. The WHPU side explained that working in China may be relatively challenging because many local graduates are also seeking employment. However, they noted that Indonesian graduates who return home after studying in China often have strong prospects in Chinese companies operating in Indonesia, especially when they possess Mandarin language skills alongside specialized academic and professional expertise.
Another important topic was the possibility of establishing a Mandarin Language Center at UIII. Wang Hongxun raised the idea, and Dr. Phil. Syafiq Hasyim, M.A., welcomed it, provided that WHPU could support the center with qualified instructors and appropriate teaching materials. Wang responded positively and said that he would discuss the matter further with his university upon returning to China.
Responding to the same issue, Prof. Jamhari added that beyond a Mandarin Language Center, UIII and WHPU could also explore the development of China Studies at UIII. He suggested that such an initiative could enrich academic understanding of China from interdisciplinary perspectives, including language, society, economy, culture, technology, and international relations.
Dr. Syafiq also expressed hope that the cooperation could soon be formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding. Saiful Umam, M.A., Ph.D., welcomed the proposal and said that his office would help formulate the relevant points in the draft MoU based on the discussion.
Arif Priambodo added that the initiative was aligned with President Prabowo Subianto’s broader direction to strengthen Indonesia-China relations beyond business and investment into the education sector. He further noted that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology would help facilitate institutional and academic arrangements, including curriculum development.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and group photos inside the meeting room and outside on the UIII campus grounds.
