Depok City, Indonesia — As the sun rose over the Cisalak neighborhood in Depok City, residents calmly worked to dismantle their homes, stacking bricks, collecting wooden beams, and carefully loading their belongings onto trucks. Their departure was marked by a sense of responsibility and cooperation as they prepared for a new beginning elsewhere.

For weeks, the land clearance process for the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII) has proceeded smoothly, with residents voluntarily vacating the area in accordance with an agreement reached with the government.

"We deeply appreciate everyone who has contributed to this process, especially the local residents who have chosen to relocate voluntarily," said Prof. Jamhari, Rector of UIII. "Their cooperation has been invaluable in ensuring that the university can continue its development as planned."

The relocation follows the January 6-10, 2025, disbursement of government compensation to 530 land occupants for 689 plots, a step taken to ensure that those affected were supported in their transition. Since then, approximately 70% of residents have voluntarily begun vacating the area, taking the time to carefully relocate their homes, belongings, and even plants, in a thoughtful and organized manner.

The government has set February 14, 2025, as the final deadline for clearing the 23.8-hectare site, with the key phase of structured dismantling expected to conclude between February 3-10. The process is being closely monitored by Kemenag RI, the West Java Provincial Government, Depok Police, Depok Military Command, and local authorities, ensuring that everything proceeds smoothly and respectfully.
