FoE Master's Students Engage in Research Visit at Deakin University, Australia

July 04, 2024

Top three achievers of the second cohort of Master’s students from the UIII Faculty of Education (FoE) visited Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia, for a research-focused academic exchange. Participants Iin Afriyanti Umar, Muhammad Fayyaz Mumtaz, and Eka Hermansyah explored campus life, engaged in research discussions, and gained insights into Australia’s educational practices.

Spanning from May 15 to 24, 2024, the visit commenced with an orientation by Deakin staff and a tour of the campus, including the library, sports facilities, and Dr. Fiona’s Digital Art Class, where they saw student-created works like storybooks and floral-patterned seat cushions. These experiences highlighted the university’s creative approach to education.

Throughout the visit, the students engaged in research conversations with Deakin PhD students and faculty, including discussions with Associate Professor Wanty Widjaja on pursuing advanced degrees and scholarship opportunities. They attended seminars and observed Deakin’s innovative learning environments, such as a 360-degree theater for immersive education and simulations.

A highlight of the visit included a seminar on multiliteracy in early childhood education and an art class where they learned about the role of arts in memory and student development. Discussions with Dr. Claire Stonehouse provided further insights into student well-being, covering issues such as gender, bullying, and policy strategies for improvement.

The 10-day program concluded with the UIII students gaining valuable insights into Deakin’s academic practices and methodologies, strengthening their research skills and enhancing UIII’s global academic collaborations.

This visit marked the second time that the Faculty of Education’s top students were selected for this program, reflecting UIII’s dedication to global academic partnerships and student excellence. In May 2023, top three students from the first cohort of master’s students at UIII Faculty of Education also visited Deakin University under the same program.
