UIII and Leiden University Deepen Collaboration with Latest Event

Prof. Dr. Noorhadi Hasan, the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies (FIS) at the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII), was enthusiastic as he discussed the significance of their latest event, Masterclass 2024 with a theme “The Future of Artificial Intelligence in/and of Islam”.

"Hosting this Masterclass is a distinct honor for UIII," he remarked during his opening speech on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, reflecting on the fruitful collaboration sparked by a meeting with Prof. Bart Barendregt and his research team from Leiden University. "This Masterclass marks our third such endeavor, showcasing our growing academic engagements."

The Dean was particularly grateful for the extensive support from research projects in the Netherlands, which fully funded the event, including the participation of several distinguished international speakers. "Their generosity has been instrumental," he added.

Echoing this sentiment, Zezen Z. Mutaqin, SJD, the Head of the Master's Study Program in Islamic Studies at UIII, shared his pride in the meticulous preparations that brought the event to life. "We approached the planning of this Masterclass with utmost seriousness and care," he said. "We are blessed to have assembled a list of speakers and panelists who are leading experts in the cutting-edge fields of AI and Islam."

The event, a blend of rigorous academic discourse and innovative exploration, underscores UIII's commitment to fostering global academic partnerships and advancing knowledge at the intersection of technology and religion. UIII initiated its Annual Masterclass in 2022 with the theme “Digital Humanities and Islam”, followed by the second Masterclass event in 2023 with the theme “Digital Islamic Studies.”
