A delegation from Turkey, led by H.E. Prof. Talip Küçükcan, the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Jakarta, paid an official visit to the Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) on Monday, June 12, 2023, accompanyed the Rector of Ankara University, Prof. Necdet Ünüvar, as well as Associate Prof. Okan Ekin, and Dr. Cemal Şahin, Director of Yunus Emre Enstitüsü.
During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between UIII and Ankara University, marking the official partnership between the two academic institutions in the educational field. The MoU was signed by Rector Prof. Necdet Ünüvar on behalf of Ankara University and Rector Prof. Komaruddin Hidayat on behalf of UIII.
Prof. Necdet Ünüvar said that this bilateral agreement entailed educational cooperation in the disciplines of economics, politics, and social sciences. "We have made a lot of contributions to the sciences. We have done a lot of projects together, and our students can also make exchange programs with the help of a special agreement," he said.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Küçükcan mentioned that the MoU intended to improve the relationship between the two countries which could be implemented by exchanging students, staff, and academics. Also, this could initiate common projects to build a strong relationship between Turkey and Indonesia.
"I think the relationship is one of the key links between the two nations [to be] close to each other […] Of course, between two countries, this will be a bridge, education bridges, and bridges of knowledge between Türkiye and Indonesia," he said.
Ambassador Küçükcan also mentioned that Indonesia and Turkey have had a great relationship in many areas thus far. He hoped that, through this partnership, the tie between the two counties will be improved.
During the MoU signing, UIII’s Rector was accompanied by Prof Jamhari Makruf (Vice Rector for Research, Cooperation, and Community Engagement), Dr. Bahrul Hayat, (Vice Rector for Academic, Student Affairs, and Human Resources), Dr. M. Rifqi Muna (Academic Senate), Dr. Philips J. Vermonte (Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences), Prof. Nina Nurmila (Dean of the Faculty of Education), and Prof. Amsal Bahtiar (Director of Business Development).
