REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The construction of the International Islamic
University of Indonesia (UIII) follows a protocol to prevent the transmission and spread of the corona virus or Covid-19. It is planned that UIII will accept new students in March 2021 because now it is still a Covid-19 pandemic. "(UIII development)
is not hampered but we are adjusting it to the Covid-19 protocol, so we still do concreting work by (implementing) the Covid-19 protocol," said UIII Development Manager from the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag), Syafrizal to Republika, Tuesday (11/8).
Syafrizal said that the UIII construction work which was being carried out was temporarily halted. This is done in accordance with the regulations in the red zone announced by the Mayor of Depok from March to May 2020. He said, based on the plan that had been made, God willing, in March 2021 the admission of UIII students would begin. Many factors make UIII student admission begin in March next year.
Among other things, because of the provision of budget for the construction of UIII, there was a cut, and the process of moving people who occupied state-owned land had to comply with Presidential Regulation Number 62 of 2018 concerning religious funds so as not to harm the community. In addition, at the UIII construction site, there are assets belonging to RRI that must be moved and it takes time. So the problem is complex and there must be obstacles in the field.
He added, 50 percent of UIII students came from abroad and the rest were from within the country, while now there is a Covid-19 pandemic. "Who is the person who wants to come to Indonesia from abroad, in the current condition who wants to visit the pandemic (Covid-19) countries," he said.
Syafrizal said, UIII construction was carried out in stages. The first stage is 2018-2020, the second stage is 2020-2021, and the third stage is 2022-2024. In this first stage there are five work packages. Three work packages are handled by MoRA and two work packages are handled by the PUPR Ministry.
UIII development is a national strategic project based on Presidential Decree No. 56/2018. The Ministry of Religion wants Islamic higher education in Indonesia to be known internationally through UIII. Want to convey that the Islamic world does not only exist in the Arabian Peninsula but also in Indonesia. "Students (UIII) 50 percent from abroad and 50 percent from within the country, especially for S2 and S3 only, so S1 is enough at UIN and IAIN so that (the presence of UIII) does not interfere with UIN and IAIN," he explained.
