UIII, DEPOK - On January 23, 2024, the UIII’s Faculty of Education (FoE) held an end-of-semester gathering and evaluation to formally conclude the odd semester of the academic year 2023-2024. The gathering was aimed at discussing and deliberating the areas for improvement as the faculty takes the evaluation seriously to ensure the quality of learning.

“We need to find out what was happening during the semester and the quality of teaching and learning in order to improve our quality of teaching and learning in the next semester,” Prof. Nina Nurmila, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, said during the event.

Checking on the faculty and students’ progress was clearly emphasized at the event to address some challenges that the lecturers and students may face. Also, Prof. Nurmila stressed the importance of evaluation in every term to enhance the continued quality of learning.

Expressing his reflection, Muhamad Maulana, an MA in Education student, acknowledged the value of evaluation. He said, “It's important to improve the quality of learning because students can have the opportunity to discuss something important to be known by the Faculty.” He elaborated that the evaluation means a lot to some students who are doing their best to improve themselves academically.

In its design, the event indeed offers a snapshot of the learning journey for both students and educators. For students, it is a chance to reflect on what worked well and what needs improvement that shapes their academic path. Evaluations serve as a compass that guides the faculty in adjusting teaching methods and resources based on student feedback.

On the flip side, educators can gain constructive feedback on the effectiveness of their teaching methods through these evaluations. It is a feedback loop that fosters continuous improvement and encourages lecturers to refine their strategies and stay committed to delivering top-notch education.

Hence, the semester ender gathering and the evaluation were given importance by the faculty and the students as a way to formally conclude the semester, reunite everyone in the same room, and share their experiences from the odd semester. The discussion between the lecturers and the students proves everything has room for improvement at the faculty.
