UIII is strengthening its role as a green campus with strong support from the Depok City Government. During his visit to UIII on Friday, March 14, 2025, Depok Mayor Supian Suri took part in the university’s reforestation efforts by planting a Pometia pinnata (matoa) tree and releasing fish into Situ Pangarengan, a lake within the UIII campus.
With a goal of reforesting 70% of its campus, UIII is committed to enhancing urban greenery and sustainability. Mayor Supian, accompanied by UIII Rector Prof. Jamhari, emphasized the importance of this initiative for the broader region.
“We envision UIII as the lungs of West Java, Depok, and Jakarta. By planting more trees and maintaining the lake’s ecosystem, we can create a much-needed green space in the city,” Mayor Supian said.
Prof. Jamhari highlighted that preserving Situ Pangarengan will improve water retention and help mitigate flooding in surrounding areas. Additionally, UIII plans to develop a jogging track around the lake, providing a recreational space for both the university community and Depok residents.
“This initiative not only supports sustainability but also fosters community engagement. We want UIII to be a place where nature and urban life thrive together,” Prof. Jamhari added.
With UIII’s commitment to sustainability and the Depok City Government’s support, this collaboration marks a significant step toward creating a greener, healthier environment for future generations. As UIII continues to expand its green initiatives, the campus is set to become a model for urban ecological preservation, benefiting both the academic community and the residents of Depok.
