UIII Triumphs in Friendly Football Match Against UI

The spirit of sportsmanship lit up the UI Stadium on Saturday afternoon, December 7, 2024, as Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) and Universitas Indonesia (UI) faced off in a highly anticipated friendly football match.

This fixture, a recurring tradition between the two institutions located in Depok, brought together not just skilled players but also passionate supporters eager to witness their teams in action.

The match kicked off at 4:00 PM. From the first whistle, both teams exhibited exceptional teamwork and determination. Cheers erupted from the stands as fans rallied behind their respective teams, their chants echoing across the stadium.

UIII struck first with an impressive goal by Dawud from Ghana. However, UI fought back with equal intensity. The match saw moments of tension and exhilaration, including an unexpected own goal (OG) that tipped the scales in UIII's favor.

When the score hanging in balance of 2-2, Omar from Gambia seized the moment and netted the winning goal for UIII.

Goalkeeper Ebrima Khan, also from Gambia, emerged as the hero of the day, for his exceptional performance, including a crucial penalty save.

At the final whistle, UIII celebrated a well-earned 3-2 victory, their players lifting their arms in triumph as supporters cheered with pride.

Wildan Rofi’i, President of the UIII Student Union, expressed his gratitude after the game. "We appreciate this match, especially the players and supporters who brought excitement to the game. Most importantly, we managed to secure victory. And I think with the solid team we have, we can go on for official tournaments."

The friendly match was not just about goals and victories, it was a testament to the power of sports in building bridges, fostering teamwork, and creating memories between UI and UIII – two neighboring higher educational institutions in Depok, Indonesia. As the sun set over the stadium, both teams left the field with handshakes, and a shared promise to meet again.
