Dr. Walid bin Abdullah Al-Othman: Saudi Arabia as a global hub for knowledge and innovation

On October 24, 2024, Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) held a public lecture on the Saudi Vision 2030 and its implications for higher education. The event took place in the Theater Room of Faculty A, featuring Dr. Walid bin Abdullah Al-Othman, Dean of the Institute of Islamic and Arabic Sciences in Indonesia (LIPIA), which operates under Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Education and is affiliated with Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University.

In his lecture, Dr. Al-Othman detailed Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and its blueprint for transforming higher education. He explained how the vision aims to equip students with skills relevant to the modern world while instilling Islamic values, creating an environment where cultural heritage and educational excellence coexist. The ambitious initiative also seeks to establish Saudi Arabia as a global hub for knowledge and innovation, he said, adding that partnerships with institutions like UIII play a vital role in these efforts.

UIII’s Rector, Prof. Jamhari Ma’ruf, opened the lecture by welcoming Dr. Walid and thanking him for sharing his expertise with the UIII community. Prof. Jamhari commended Saudi Arabia’s efforts in supporting high-quality education in the Muslim world and underscored UIII's shared commitment to raising the standards of Islamic higher education.

Prof. Jamhari also highlighted the significance of partnership between the two institutions, symbolizing their mutual goal of advancing high-quality Islamic education and fostering academic partnerships. “It has the potential to serve as a bridge, fostering academic and cultural exchanges between Muslim countries,” he affirmed.

Responding to the Rector’s address, Dr. Al-Othman expressed his gratitude to UIII for the opportunity to present and commended the university’s rapid progress. He shared his admiration for the unique environment at UIII, where students from diverse backgrounds come together to create a vibrant and inclusive learning community. Speaking directly to the foreign students in the audience, he encouraged them to take full advantage of the diverse perspectives and cultural experiences offered at UIII, which he said would be invaluable for their futures.

UIII and LIPIA Indonesia are currently establishing an MoU for academic and cultural exchanges between the two institutions. UIII hopes that this collaboration will foster knowledge transfer and innovation in Islamic studies and Arabic language education, ultimately contributing to a globally connected academic community.
