Muhammad M. Nasir and Saemah Shamim, students from the Faculty of Islamic Studies and the Faculty of Social Sciences at UIII, have achieved a significant milestone by publishing their research in a top-tier journal indexed by Scopus Q1. Their article, "Muslim Women Entrepreneurs: An Exploratory Study of the Nigerian 'Mumpreneurs' Perspective," appears in the International Journal of Organizational Analysis, published by Emerald Publishing Limited.

The paper explores the motivations and challenges faced by Muslim women entrepreneurs, known as 'mumpreneurs,' in Northern Nigeria, a region with a predominantly Muslim population. The unique socio-religious and cultural context of Northern Nigeria plays a crucial role in this study, facilitating an in-depth examination of the experiences of these Muslim mumpreneurs.

“I would say it is a result of hard work, perseverance, and most importantly an astute observation of the area where I come from. I mean, what is the point of doing all this if you cannot add value to your society?” Nasir, who hails from Nigeria, commented on the achievement.

He emphasized that their research is distinctive because it examines an emerging phenomenon in a complex Muslim society through a multidisciplinary approach, integrating insights from Islamic Studies, Sociology, Economics, and even Political Science and Public Policy.

“One must adopt a versatile approach, observing Muslim societies through various lenses, as we were taught here. I guess that is what made the work to be published in a very high-impact journal. So yeah, Alhamdulillah! I am very happy with this achievement. It is just a start of something new I would say,” Nasir added.

Meanwhile, Saemah—the co-author of the paper—complemented their teamwork, saying “I guess a genius supportive partner with the same interests in studies makes it all easy. Because it is not one mind but two with the same energy.” She added that patience and perseverance are crucial for achieving success, admitting this accomplishment was the result of a series of rigorous revisions, underscoring the importance of consistency and dedication to the academic work.
