Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) or Indonesian International Islamic University (IIIU) will officially open admissions for the 2022/2023 academic year. This year’s admission program is opened through two schemes, namely the self-funded scheme and the scholarship scheme. The program entitled “UIII Admissions for the 2022/2023 Academic Year” is offered for Master’s (MA) degree and Doctoral (Ph.D.) programs. This program is quite different from last year’s admissions which were only opened for the Master’s degree program.
In a press conference that was held at UIII Campus on Friday, May 13, 2022, the Rector of UIII, Prof. Dr. Komaruddin Hidayat, emphasized that both admission schemes are offered for Indonesian and foreign citizens who are able to demonstrate leadership qualities and strong academic backgrounds. He also added that although UIII bears the name of Islam, its vision and mission are inclusive and universal, meaning that UIII is not strictly for Muslims but also welcomes those from other religions and people of different faiths. “The scholarship scheme that we offer is also non-discriminatory. Therefore, I invite potential students, young people from all over the world not to miss this golden opportunity regardless of their religious background,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Rector for Academic, Student Affairs, and Human Resources of UIII, Bahrul Hayat, Ph.D., explained that the self-funded scheme provides opportunities for prospective students who want to study at the UIII campus at their own expense. As for the scholarship program, he explained, what is being offered is scholarships by the Indonesian government which is managed by UIII. This scholarship is designed to provide assistance for Indonesian citizens as well as foreigners to take Master's and Doctoral programs at UIII. The scholarship period for the Master’s program lasts for 2 years and the number of scholarships available for the 2022/2023 academic year is 200. As for the Doctoral program, the number of scholarships available in the 2022/2023 academic year is 100. The scholarship for the Doctoral program, Bahrul said, came from Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) provided for UIII.
UIII Scholarships program is financial aid for selected applicants and is bond-free. Applicants can apply for a Master’s (MA) degree or Doctoral (Ph.D.) programs at one of the 4 (four) faculties currently available at UIII, namely the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Business, and Faculty of Education.
All academic and learning programs in UIII use English as a medium of instruction. Especially for the Faculty of Islamic Studies, in addition to English, Arabic is also required. Indonesian is a requirement for students who take studies and research Indonesia and Southeast Asia for their theses and dissertations.
Applicants for both MA and Ph.D. programs for all faculties, both from self-funded and scholarship schemes are required to have English language proficiency as shown by a certificate in the form of IELTS or TOEFL. However, this requirement does not apply to applicants from English-speaking countries or graduates from universities that use English as the medium of instruction. Especially for applicants at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, both MA and Ph.D. programs are also required to have Arabic language proficiency as shown by a certificate in the form TOAFL. This requirement does not apply to applicants from Arabic-speaking countries or graduates from universities that use Arabic as the medium of instruction in their studies.
Applicants from self-funded or scholarship schemes are required to attach an academic transcript that shows their Grade Point Average (GPA) with a score of at least 3.0 on a maximum scale of 4.0 for the master's Program and a score of at least 3.5 on a maximum scale of 4.0 for the doctoral Program. Particularly for the doctoral program, applicants must submit a brief research proposal (4,000-5,000 words), examples of scientific writings, research results relevant to the choice of field of study, or the latest articles published in English-language scientific journals. In addition, applicants are required to attach 2 (two) letters of recommendation explaining why they applicant deserve to continue their studies at UIII. The referees must be the people that know the applicant well, so they can explain the applicant’s potential well in English.
