Depok, Indonesia, April 16, 2025 — Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) is preparing to host the groundbreaking ceremony for Pondok Pesantren Istiqlal International Indonesia, an ambitious international Islamic boarding school, on April 22, 2025.
The event follows a site visit by a high-level delegation from Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs, led by Prof. Dr. Suyitno, Director General of Islamic Education, alongside Prof. Arskal Salim, Secretary of the Directorate General, and Dr. Ismail Cawidu, Coordinator of the Minister’s Special Staff.
UIII Rector Prof. Jamhari, joined by University Secretary Dr. Chaider S. Bamualim and Head of the Technical Implementation Unit M. Nurhidayat, welcomed the delegation and showcased the campus, including the designated site for the pesantren, located opposite the UIII dormitory complex. The visit served as a critical step in preparations for the ceremony, which President Prabowo Subianto is slated to lead.
The pesantren, designed to be a strategic national project (PSN), embodies the Ministry’s “3 in 1” vision, integrating madrasah, pesantren, and university education, with UIII as its anchor. Prof. Suyitno underscored the project’s role as a cornerstone of educational reform and a lasting legacy, aiming to establish a global benchmark for Islamic boarding schools grounded in Indonesia’s Islamic heritage.
The ceremony will feature the signing of a commemorative plaque, the laying of the first stone, and a video presentation outlining the pesantren’s vision and its synergy with UIII’s academic framework.
UIII’s leadership pledged full support, providing land and facilities to ensure the project’s success. Rector Jamhari emphasized that the pesantren aligns with UIII’s mission to advance inclusive, global Islamic education, fostering Muslim scholars equipped to address both local and international challenges.
As a hub of academic excellence and Islamic values, UIII sees the pesantren as a vital extension of its commitment to shaping future leaders through innovative and internationally oriented education.
