Bogor — Sixteen students from the Faculty of Education (FoE) at Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) led classroom activities at SMART Ekselensia Indonesia School in Bogor on Thursday, October 8, 2026. The group consisted of master’s students from Estudia, the FoE student organization, and doctoral students. Nearly 100 pupils took part in the community service program.
The program featured six sessions covering gender in Islam, STEM-based learning, empathy and inclusivity, objective measurement, basic counseling skills for teachers, and English instruction. The sessions were designed for different audiences, including teachers and pupils.
In the empathy and inclusivity session, led by A/Prof. Charyna Ayu Rizkyanti, PhD, pupils discussed why empathy matters and how they could respond to bullying. The activities encouraged them to reflect on their own behavior and consider how they could help create a safer and more supportive environment for others.
Dian Heryani, an Estudia student who helped facilitate the session, said the experience was valuable for both the pupils and herself. She was encouraged to see how much the pupils already understood about empathy.
Meanwhile, Estudia master’s students and doctoral students led English sessions that gave pupils the opportunity to practise speaking English directly with university students from different backgrounds. The activities offered a chance to learn and communicate in a setting beyond their regular classroom lessons.
For the FoE students, the program provided an opportunity to apply their knowledge in a school setting and engage directly with teachers and pupils.
Dian hopes similar community service programs will be held more often in the coming year and continued by future student cohorts, giving more students the opportunity to share their knowledge and contribute to the wider community.
