The Jusuf Kalla Library received a donation of more than 160 books through the Read Japan project on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. The Collection was presented by the Embassy of Japan to Indonesia to support international academic references at UIII. The handover ceremony was led by Mr. Myochin Mitsuru, Chargés d’Affaires ad interim of Japan, and Dr. Phil Syafiq Hasyim, Director of Library and Culture, and was witnessed by UIII Rector Prof. Jamhari, along with delegations from both parties.

The Read Japan Project is a global initiative, since 2008, has donated books to more than 1.400 institutions worldwide. Managed by The Tokyo Foundation with support from The Nippon Foundation, the project aims to strengthen cultural exchange and promote a deeper understanding of Japan among scholars and the wider public over the long term.

Expressing his appreciation for the support of the Embassy of Japan, Prof. Jamhari, welcomed the donation as a meaningful milestone for the university. “We are truly delighted that The Japan Foundation has agreed to donate books to our library. We hope this will be the beginning of a continuing series of contributions. We look forward to receiving not only these books, but also other collections in the future,” he stated.

During the occasion, Mr. Myochin Mitsuru expressed his hope that the collection would be beneficial to the wider public. “I am pleased to see this newly completed library. I hope many Indonesians will read these books to gain a deeper understanding of Japan and its people.”

“These books enhance our library with high-quality scholarship. Our relationship with Japan has been long established, particularly in supporting the development of this campus,” said Syafiq Haysm. He added that the collection is highly significant in further enriching the university’s academic references.

With the addition of the Read Japan Project collection, the Jusuf Kalla Library continues to develop its role as a source of global academic resources. The event, attended by university leaders and representatives of the Embassy of Japan, reflected both parties’ continued commitment to educational collaboration.
