Depok, 22 January 2026 – Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) has initiated a focused effort to rise in the world’s major university rankings. A strategic workshop, led by Professor Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem, recently listed among the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, brought together university leadership and the Center for Quality Assurance (LPM UIII) to turn recognition into a structured plan for improvement.
“In today’s competitive higher education environment, we must evolve from celebrating achievements to executing a clear strategy,” Professor Maila stated at the opening session.
Her presentation analyzed key metrics from rankings such as QS and THE by Subject, with particular attention to Scopus data. She proposed a four-part strategy for UIII: reinforcing existing research strengths in priority fields, targeting indicators that allow for swift progress, unifying publication efforts across faculties to increase impact, and developing international partnerships that deliver measurable results.
UIII Secretary Dr. Chaider S. Bamualim emphasized the workshop’s objective. “We are building a definitive action plan to strengthen our performance across all relevant ranking indicators, from research citations to international faculty engagement,” he said.
The workshop, attended by university executives, deans, university offices and research center heads, and senior academics, centered on practical implementation.

“This is where insight meets execution,” said Dr. Alpha Amirrachman, Head of the Center for Quality Assurance (LPM UIII). “Professor Maila’s record in high-impact research offers a valuable model for our academic community as we pursue this institutional goal.”
Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Dr. Phil. Syafiq Hasyim affirmed that the analysis will directly guide planning. “We are concentrating on disciplines where we have demonstrable strength, such as Islamic Studies, Education, and Political Science. The aim is to translate that strength into markedly higher ranking positions for these fields.”
Today’s workshop underscores UIII’s commitment to a deliberate, evidence-based approach to enhancing its global standing, drawing on the expertise of its accomplished researchers to shape its international academic trajectory. []
