Members of the Steering Committee have expressed strong support and high hopes for the rebranded AICIS+ 2025, following a coordination meeting with Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) and the Ministry of Religious Affairs on June 11 in Central Jakarta.
With UIII as the host, this year’s conference is rebranded as the Annual International Conference on Islam, Science, and Society (AICIS+), aimed to broaden its scope beyond traditional Islamic studies to include science, technology, and social challenges, marking a significant leap toward becoming a truly international platform.
Professor Mujiburrahman, Rector of UIN Antasari Banjarmasin and a member of the Steering Committee, expressed strong support for the rebranding. “I expect an elevated international standard. In previous years, most participants and speakers were Indonesians. This time, we hope to see more scholars from all over the world,” he said. “The updated theme, which includes environmental crises and climate change, is both timely and crucial. We’re placing religion, science, and technology in direct dialogue to respond to today’s global challenges.”
Meanwhile, Professor Eka Srimulyani from UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh highlighted how the new identity of AICIS+ is designed to be more inclusive and interdisciplinary.
“This year, AICIS+ will not only cover Islamic studies but also sciences and social issues,” she explained. “The goal is to accommodate all academic fields offered in Islamic universities and to encourage wider participation across disciplines.”
She also praised UIII as the ideal host for this next chapter. “As an international university, UIII is known for its strong focus on Islamic studies and its future-oriented vision. The conference theme reflects that future-focused direction,” she noted.
AICIS+ 2025 represents a deliberate expansion from its original format—evolving from a local postgraduate forum to a national academic stage, and now, into an international platform integrating knowledge, innovation, and societal impact. With a commitment to aligning with Indonesia’s national development agenda, including food and energy security, technological innovation, and human capital development, AICIS+ is set to become a global voice in shaping the future of Islamic scholarship.
The full launch of AICIS+ 2025 is expected to take place in late October this year, with global scholars, thought leaders, and policymakers anticipated to join in shaping a future where Islamic values and scientific inquiry walk hand in hand.
