MA and PhD programs in Philosophy and Theory of Education & International and Comparative Education (ICE)

The International and Comparative Education (ICE) is dedicated to the study of comparative and international education and its variations within the contexts Muslim societies, to the study of traditionally defined fields such as history of education, philosophy of education, and sociology and anthropology of education.

The Philosophy and Theory of Education program will give students a strong background in both conceptualizing and carrying out research. Coursework is heavily weighted toward conceptualization of a research project, how to use theory to inform one’s research, an overview of the various research methods that can be employed in relation to conceptualization and theory,and writing with rigor and integrity.

Our MA and PhD programs are designed for students to gain a mastery of skills and knowledge in how cultural, economic, and political forces affect international and intercultural education. Students will develop an in-depth understanding of the similarities and differences in educational systems within Muslim societies.

Focus on What You Do Best

In consultation with the advisor and program committee, students will construct a major course of studies in education appropriate to his or her program interests from courses and individual studies offered other programs, i.e. within the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Islamic Studies.

Language Requirement

Language instruction will be in English. If your education has not been conducted in the English language, you will be expected to demonstrate evidence of an adequate level of English proficiency. The English language level for our programs is IELTS 6 or TOEFL 92.
