Prof. Farish A. Noor, Professor of Political History at the UIII Faculty of Social Sciences (FOSS) shared his insights in an exclusive interview with Malaysian news channel Astro AWANI, analyzing the current political and economic situation in Indonesia.

Addressing the recent unrest in Jakarta and other cities, Prof. Noor stressed that the situation differs from the 1998 reformasi crisis. “This is not just about political issues but also economic ones, such as unemployment and rising prices, which have converged into a critical point,” he explained.

He further highlighted that Indonesia’s struggles reflect broader structural challenges. “Across Southeast Asia, similar problems exist, and they are not merely the fault of individual governments. These are structural issues related to economics, governance, and the law,” he said.
