Depok, Indonesia — The Annual International Conference on Islam, Science and Society (AICIS+) 2025 has broken records with an unprecedented wave of submissions received during its call-for-papers period, which ran from July 4 to August 15, 2025.

The committee received a total of 2,434 abstracts, marking the highest volume in the history of AICIS+. Yet, quantity was not the sole measure of success. To uphold the integrity of the conference, the submissions underwent a meticulous cleansing process in which each entry was scrutinized for quality and compliance.

This review revealed 241 abstracts that required exclusion, primarily due to incomplete documents, formatting inconsistencies, and instances of duplicate submissions by the same participants. Following this careful curation, the final tally of 2,198 valid submissions stands as both a numerical record and a testament to the scholarly rigor that defines AICIS+.

These submissions span 31 countries, including Australia, Brunei, Canada, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Libya, Malaysia, Netherlands, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Morocco, Qatar, China, Egypt, Switzerland, Thailand, Uganda.

Dr. Chaider S. Bamualim, Chair of the Organizing Committee for AICIS+ 2025, highlighted the significance of this milestone. “The record-breaking 2,198 submissions for AICIS+ 2025 reflect the growing trust of the international scholarly community in this platform. It shows that the conference has become a vital space for exchanging knowledge, building collaborations, and addressing pressing global issues through the perspectives of Islam, science, and society,” he said.

The wide-ranging abstracts demonstrate the vibrancy of the academic discussions AICIS+ is fostering. The largest share of submissions came under the theme of ‘Ecotheology and Environmental Sustainability’ (777 abstracts), followed by ‘Islamic Law, Social Equality, and Eco-Feminism’ (438 abstracts) and ‘Decolonizing Islamic Studies’ (284 abstracts).

The remaining abstracts fall within the themes Sustainable Economic Systems and Social Welfare (240); Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Crises (215); Science and Technological Transformations (233); Public Health in Muslim Societies (113); and Industrialization, Innovation, and Islamic Economic Values in the New Era (139).

Prof. Jamhari, Rector of UIII, emphasized the wider impact of this milestone. “The record number of submissions demonstrates that global trust and recognition toward Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs is steadily growing through AICIS+. This conference has become a global symbol of Indonesia’s intellectual leadership, and UIII is proud to contribute to this historic achievement by providing a platform where diverse voices and groundbreaking ideas can converge,” he stated.

The surge in participation demonstrates the relevance of AICIS+ in addressing contemporary challenges through the lens of Islam, science, and society. With the review process now underway, selected papers will be presented at AICIS+ 2025, which will be held on 29–31 October 2025, at UIII’s modern campus in Depok, West Java.
